About the city

Ivano-Frankivsk is a city with centuries-old history, ancient traditions, extraordinary artistic life and dynamic economy. 

The regional center is located at the intersection of two Bystrytsias, named: Bystrytsia Solotvynska and Bystrytsia Nadvirnianska. 

A good geographical location brings Ivano-Frankivsk closer not only to the EU Member States, but also creates favorable conditions for multilateral development.

If you look closely, you can notice that a view of the City Hall from above is placed in the basis of the logo, resembling an element of cross-stitch. There are also other symbols here: Stanislav Fortress (Bastion) - above, on the left - Galka, depicted on the coat of arms of Ivano-Frankivsk, on the right - a pen for calligraphy of Ivan Franko, and below - the symbol of the Carpathians. The main theme of the logo is "Ivano-Frankivsk - a city for life".

Ivano-Frankivsk is located in the southwest of Ukraine, distanced 150-300 km from the borders of Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia.

 The city of Ivano-Frankivsk has documented related relationships with 26 local self-government bodies, including cities in Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Romania, Lithuania, Latvia, Moldova, Georgia, Portugal, Germany, Italy, the United States, and China.

Ivano-Frankivsk is the first city of Ukraine to become a member of the Association of European Municipalities "Energie-cites" (Energy City), also a member of the Association of Cities of Ukraine, which maintains close relations with the Council of European Cities and Regions, the International Union of Communities and  Organization of the Twin Cities, a member of the Sustainable Development Cities Network of Ukraine according to the Aalborg Charter, a member of the Association of European Blacksmith Cities.  The city is a signatory to the Agreement of Mayors of European Cities.

For the work in the context of integration and promotion of European values, Ivano-Frankivsk has received all four high awards of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe – the European Diploma, the Flag of Honour, the Plaque of Honour, and in 2018 the highest award of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe – the Europe Prize.

Today, Ivano-Frankivsk is one of the most dynamic cities in the region. Both the economic and humanitarian sectors of the city are actively developing.

Ivano-Frankivsk is a city of festivals.  Traditionally, about 15 festivals take place annually in the regional centre, including International Christmas Festival “Koliada na Maizliah”, the international festivals "Carpathian Space" and "Blacksmith's Festival", festivals " Medy Prykarpattia", "Grapes and Wines Festival", "Bread and Cheese Festival", exhibition-fair of folk artists works "Prykarpatskiy vernissage", ethno-festival "Kray.ka ".

Ivano-Frankivsk has a distinct competitive advantage - a high level of education, science and general culture of the population.  Of the total population, 13% (33.8 thousand, of which more than 2 thousand are foreigners) are students studying at higher educational establishments of the city of I-IV accreditation levels: 5 universities and institutes, 11 - colleges, technical colleges and vocational colleges.

Ivano-Frankivsk Universities are ranked high among Ukrainian higher education institutions and are active in international activities.

The National Technical University of Oil and Gas operates a science and technology park. Its task is to promote the introduction of many modern energy-saving technologies and know-how into the economy of the city and the region.

Ivano-Frankivsk is a city of sports and physical culture. More than 50 kinds of sport (Olympic and non-Olympic) are developing in the city; 13 youth sports schools and more than 60 sports clubs and organizations are successfully operating.

Since gaining independence, the leading athletes of the city in the Olympic team of Ukraine were participants of the Summer and Winter Olympic Games.

Every year, the athletes of the city win over 200 medals of various grades at the European, Olympic and non-Olympic sports championships.

Ivano-Frankivsk is a pearl of the Carpathian region, a city with Galician charm and European traditions.
